The Akyem Oda Police have arrested two persons for allegedly dealing in fake dollar notes.

They are Nana Ntiamoah Kisseh, a 37-year-old Accra-based businessman, and Kwabena Fosu, 38, a chainsaw operator at Akyem Oda.

When Nana Ntiamoah, who claimed to have just returned from the United States of America, was searched, 1,100 fake dollar notes in 100-dollar denominations were found on him.

Briefing the Daily Graphic at Oda on Monday, the Oda Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Ben Atadana, said the first victim was a female trader at Akyem Achiase, Margaret Adomah.

He said on September 12, this year, Nana Ntiamoah approached the woman at Achiase, introduced himself to her that he had recently returned from America and had decided to deal in the diamond business in the Oda area.

According to Chief Supt. Atadana, the suspect managed to hoodwink Madam Adomah into hosting him in her house for three days.

He said Nana Ntiamoah convinced the woman that he had no cedis on him so he collected GH¢16 (¢l60,000) from her and gave her $600 to keep until he changed his dollars and returned her money to her. But he vanished into thin air.

The Divisional Commander stated that on September 28, this year, Nana Ntiamoah resurfaced at Oda and duped another victim, Mr Kwame Obeng-Darko, a drinking bar operator.

He said the suspect bought a cell phone and some drinks from Mr. Obeng-Darko and gave him a 100-dollar note that turned out to be fake.

Chief Supt. Atadana stated that Nana Ntiamoah also bought GH¢15 (¢150,OOO) worth of drinks on credit from another beer bar operator by name Mr Samuel Ghartey and showed Ghartey some dollar notes, with the promise of paying him after changing the currency.

He said when Mr Ghartey was looking for Nana Ntiamoah, he heard that the latter had duped another victim with some fake dollars and that the latest victim had reported the suspect at the Oda Police Station, leading to his arrest, together with Fosu.

According to the Divisional Commander, when Nana Ntiamoah was searched, 1,100 fake dollar notes were found on him.

He said during interrogation, Nana Ntiamoah told the police that he had just returned from Switzerland and was doing business at Ofankor, a suburb of Accra, adding that Fosu was his friend.

Chief Supt Atadana said the suspect claimed that he changed an amount of GH¢1,000 (¢10 million) into dollars at the Landing Restaurant in Accra, which turned out to be fake.

He said Nana Ntiamoah and Fosu would be arraigned before court soon.

The Divisional Commander stated that it was the second time in one month that fake dollar dealers had been arrested in the area and cautioned the general public to be wary of such cheats in the system. He said the police had put a mechanism in place to track down all fake currency dealers.
