The fake medical practitioner, Richard Brown Afful, grabbed by the police at Aflao late last month, has been granted bail in the sum of 5,000.00 Ghana cedis with one surety by a circuit court at Aflao.

The plea of Afful, 27, was not taken and would re-appear on October 11.

The court presided over by Mr. Mohammed Nabon ordered the accused to report to the Aflao Police 0900 hours on Mondays and Fridays.

Miss Josephine Azukah, an Inspector of Police, told the court that Afful posed as a medical practitioner and secured employment with an Aflao hospital about two weeks ago.

The suspect used the name Dr. Richard D. Manneh and produced two certificates, one issued on July 27, 2001 qualifying him as a medical officer and a second certificate, that of a surgeon, was dated July 20, 2004.

Miss Azukah said Afful's professional proficiency came into doubt a few days on the job leading the hospital's management to seek clarification from the University of Ghana Medical School.

She said it came out that the suspect's registration number as a doctor belonged to a graduate of the medical school, Richard Kwame Mannah, who passed out in September last year and he is a houseman at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Afful was arrested and he admitted that a man who now lives in the UK forged the certificates for him but he could not remember his name.
