A Takoradi Circuit Court on Friday remanded Mohammed Baba and Joshua Mensah, self-styled scrap dealers, in custody for conspiracy to commit crime, attempted stealing and causing harm.

The accused persons, pleaded not guilty and they will re-appear on October 29 this year.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Kumah Mensah, said Alex Donkor, the complainant, is a ‘mate’ on an articulated truck.

He said at about 1200 noon on October 20, this year, Donkor's master parked the truck near the Takoradi factory of the Ghana Cement Works Limited.

Chief Inspector Mensah said later in the night, the accused persons approached the truck and attempted to steal one of its rims which was tied to the trailer.

He said while Mensah kept watch in front of the trailer, Baba went under the trailer, untied the rope and removed the rim.

Chief Inspector Mensah said Donkor who was hiding in the driver's seat, raised an alarm, causing the accused persons to flee, leaving behind two sacks of scraps and a bundle of plantain.

He said Donkor took the sacks and the contents to his master and reported the incident.

Chief Inspector Mensah said about an hour later, the accused persons returned to the scene and threatened to beat Donkor if he did not hand over the items to them.

He said Donkor called his master for help and while the master and other drivers were trying to arrest the accused persons, Baba hit Donkor with a stone and he lost one of his teeth.

Chief Inspector Mensah said eyewitnesses assisted in arresting Baba while the Police later arrested Mensah.
