Ghana’s Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has waded into the Anlo chieftaincy issue and warned parties against drawing President Kufuor's name into the conflict.
He said chieftaincy was an established institution with structures and called on those who wanted to use the President's name to win favours to refrain from that act.
" I am a full-blooded Anlo citizen and there are equally competent Anlo citizens who can resolve the Anlo chieftaincy issue," he said. Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe expressed the concern when he called from Belgrade into an Accra-based private radio station, Citi FM'sPrime News programme on Monday.
His reaction came in the wake of a call by the President of the "Concerned Citizens of Ghana" Mr Raymond Okudzeto, on the President Kufuor to set up a body to investigate the installation of a paramount chief in Anlo.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, an Anlo Royal and one time Ghana Football Association (GFA) Chairman, said there had been appointment, selection and installation of chiefs all over the country and wondered whether the President should be seen to be meddling in all these.
The furore over the installation of a new Awoamefia, following the death of Togbui Adeladza II, has been raging for some time, with opposing factions undoing one another over who is the legitimate heir to the throne.
While the Adzovia Royal Clan has landed on the Regent, Togbui Sri III, to occupy the throne, a rival faction, led by Mr Okudzeto, has denied the legitimacy of the regent and called on the President to intervene. But the Adzovia Clan said it was only members of the clan who constituted the king makers who could determine who became an Awoamefia.
The acting Awoamefia Stool Father, Mr Albert Kwashi Sadika, said in a statement that for now the family had concluded the process of nomination, selection and confinement of the candidate who would be installed, as directed by the clan.
He, accordingly, advised the public to dismiss the claim by faceless concerned citizens of Anlo and Mr Okudzeto who had challenged the decision of the clan.
