NGO presents school uniforms to orphans

Intervention Forum, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), based in the Central Region, on Thursday presented school uniforms worth 2,000 Ghana cedis to 18 orphans from Awutu Obrachire and Awutu Akropong in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District.

The children, made up of six girls and 12 boys, were staying with parents, who could not provide the children with all of their needs because they were poor.

Madam Nora Ollennu, Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, who made the presentation at Awutu Akropong, said the gesture to ensure that beneficiaries remained in school.

She said the NGO bought the uniforms with funds from the Ghana AIDS Commission through the Assembly.

Madam Ollennu said the NGO was campaigning against the spread of HIV/AIDS in the area and appealed to the chiefs and opinion leaders to support programmes on aimed at preventing the spread of the disease.

She said there was no known cure for the disease and urged Ghanaians to collaborate efforts to prevent its spread.

Nana Obeng Abosom Pim, Odikro of Obrachire commended the NGO for the gesture and appealed to other organisations and philanthropists to assist poor children complete their education.

He advised the children to avoid negative tendencies that could undermine their education and concentrate on their studies.

Mrs. Helena Eshun, an educationist in the area, appealed to parents and guardians to invest in the education of children instead of spending lavishly on funerals.
