The good night sleep of the people of Hwenampori, a farming community in the Bibiani District of the Western Region was cut short to witness the horror of a man who had attacked a household and clubbed two children to death in their sleep.

His reason? To retrieve his soul which he claimed had been in captivity in the bereaved family's house.

The names of the two children were given as Mike Agyei 6 and his sister Faustina Duah 4, while the name of the suspect was also given as Kojo Atugubah, 32.

The horrific scene, according to the police, was greeted with wailing and uncontrollable tears as members of the community and other curious people of nearby towns and villages besieged the police station at Bibiani to catch a glimpse of the alleged murderer.

According to a source close to the family, they all parted company the previous night. At about a 12:30 a.m. there was a knock on the door of Mr Emmanuel Duah who was then asleep together with his family.

The source said Mr Duah, not suspecting any attempt on his life, opened the door and Atugubah - charged towards him.

Mr Duah and his wife managed to escape while the suspect entered the room and clubbed the two children who were then fast asleep to death.

Atugubah was however later over powered by some members of the household with the help of members of the community who had been woken up from sleep due to the noise emanating from Mr Duah's room and had gone to the rescue.

The bodies of the two children had been deposited at the Bibiani Government Hospital.

When contacted, the Western Regional Crime Officer, Mr Denis Abade confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

He said the father of the suspect told the police that his son was not mentally sound and that they were planning to travel for treatment.

According to the regional crime officer, upon interrogation the suspect admitted the crime and said he was told by one Mariama Moshie that his soul has been captured by Mr Duah's family.

"Therefore in the process to free my soul, I went to attack Duah and his family", he told the police.

He said Moshie who was also initially picked to the police station denied and said Atugubah came to attack her first before moving to Duah's family.

Mr Abade said the suspect is currently being processed for court and Moshie would be taken to hospital to see if there was any attack on her as she claims.
