Farmer jailed one month for stealing beans

The Hohoe Circuit Court has sentenced a 35 year-old farmer at Leklebi-Kame, in the Hohoe District to a month’s imprisonment and a fine of GH¢500 for stealing a quantity of dried cocoa beans valued at GH¢30 belonging to one Frank Adzagbo, a farmer of the same village.

Christopher Seku, who pleaded guilty to stealing, would go in for another five months in default of the fine.

The court presided over by Mr Samuel Sarpong-Appiah additionally, bonded Seku to be of good behaviour for a period of 24 months or pay a fine of GH¢500 or serve 12 months jail term.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecuting Chief Inspector Samuel Gbedemah, were that on November 1, this year, Adzagbo noticed the theft of three large baskets full of dried cocoa beans at about 0300 hours.

He said Seku was arrested on November 6, by the Unit Committee Convener after a grandson of Adzagbo discovered the cocoa beans at the farm of the convict.

Mr Gbedemah said investigations revealed that Seku was a notorious thief disturbing the community.
