Akuafo Hall of the University of Ghana, Legon, on Wednesday held a reception for the 76 regional award winners of this years National Best Farmers' Day celebration.

The event was the fifth to be organised by the Hall since the institution of the National Farmers' Day 23 years ago.

Professor Benjamin Ahunu, Provost of the Collage of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences, at the University, appealed to farmers to welcome students from the University to their farms to enable them to acquire practical skills to prepare them for the job market.

Professor Ahunu proposed the establishment of a scholarship award scheme for students who would excel in the various agriculture courses.

He said research had shown that the prices of food had stabilized and this showed that farmers were working hard to feed the nation.

The Reverend Dr S. Gbewonyo, the Hall Master, said the Hall recognised the contribution of farmers to national development.

The outgoing national best farmer, Mr Mohamed Tetteh Akpa was inducted into the Honorary Fellowship of the Akuafo Hall while Award winners from each of the 10 Regions were presented with souvenirs.
