The chiefs and opinion leaders of Gomoa-Asebu, near Winneba Junction in the Central Region, have appealed to the government and the Gomoa District Assembly to support them to complete a new market being constructed by the people through self-help.

They also appealed to the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area to use part of his share of the common fund to provide them with roofing sheets.

Nana Kojo Beedu V, chief of Asebu, Nana Otu-Gyan I, Mpontuhene of the area and "Obaatan" of the town, Nana Buaben Yedu-Nkoom I, jointly made the call at an emergency annual festival planning committee meeting at Asebu at the weekend.

According to the chiefs, the project, which was initially estimated at about GH¢30,000 (300 million cedis), was progressing but there was the need to inject an additional GH¢20,000 (200 million cedis) to complete it.

Nana Beedu said plans had been finalized to organize a special fund raising harvest early next year to mobilize funds to finish the project.

The Mpontuhene, Nana Otu-Gyan and the Obaatan, Nana Yedu-Nkoom, were optimistic that the Gomoa District Assembly and the MP would do all within their power to offer the people the assistance they needed to enable them to complete the new market soon.

They also appealed to non-governmental organizations operating in the area to consider extending some support to the community.

Mr Jacob Ketseaba, Gomoa-Asebu Unit Committee Chairman urged non-resident citizens to visit home regularly and contribute financially and materially towards the development of the town.

He announced that non-resident citizens would be required to pay development levies of GH¢6 per man and GH¢4 per woman towards the project.
