The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana have donated relief items to flood victims in the three Northern Regions: Upper West, Upper East and Northern Regions.

WHO donated health kits for distribution to health centres in the flood-hit communities to help improve upon health care delivery while the Church donated food, soap and clothing.

The health kits, which WHO mobilised through the Norwegian Government, included 52 boxes of inter-emergency health kits, 22 boxes of cholera drugs and two boxes of malarial drugs.

Dr Joaquim Saweka, WHO representative in Ghana, on behalf of the Organization, made the presentation to the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris in Tamale.

He said WHO was touched by the devastating floods that hit the three Northern Regions.

Dr. Saweka said the health of the people was paramount to WHO hence the support towards the treatment diseases including cholera and malaria.

Dr Saweka said WHO would ensure that about 30,000 people who were affected by the floods received proper healthcare.

He advised health personnel to ensure that the drugs were used for the intended purpose.

The Church presented 2,130 bags of maize, 178 bags of rice, 159 cartons of cooking oil, 164 cartons of carbolic soap and some used clothing.

Reverend Kwasi Addae-Naami, Chairperson of the Northern Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, presented the items on behalf of the religious organization to the Minister.

Alhaji Idris, said measures have been put in place to ensure equitable distribution of the items.

He commended WHO and the Church for the gesture and appealed to other organisations to support the victims.
