The Ghana Muslim Mission (GMM) has commended President Kufuor for providing additional flights for this year's Pilgrims to Mecca, who were stranded at the El-Wak Stadium during the Hajj.

Sheikh Amen Bonsu, a spokesman of GMM said the bold and humanitarian decision taken by President Kufuor has brought blessings to the Nation and relief to all Muslims in the country.

Sheikh Bonsu suggested that, the whole Hajj operations should be decentralized with each region having an office to cut cost involved in operating the task force and welfare officers.

He said the task force and welfare officers, who are always employed during the Hajj, do not play any meaningful role in assisting the operations.

Sheikh Bonsu said they pay no airfares but yet travel to Mecca at the expense of those who have paid their fares.

The spokesman said "If the current system continues, the hardships, which Pilgrims always face would remain forever."

He noted that, some of the Hajj Agents are only concerned about the huge profits they would make and hire cheap and unreliable airlines.

He suggested that the agents hire well-tested and reliable airlines like Ethiopian Airways and Egypt Air, which are also safe.

Sheikh Bonsu said the Hajj should not be commercialised to create wealth for some greedy and selfish people, but rather should be seen as a sacrificial job.
