Mr Anthony Aziabah, Acting Upper East Regional Director of Education has called on Trade Unionists to let calm prevail on the labour front to enhance production.

Mr Aziabah made the call, when the General Secretary of Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) called on him.

He said leaders had to bear with Government when negotiating for better conditions of service for their members.

Mr Antwi Ayim, General Secretary of TEWU said the Union’s Joint negotiation team comprising the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), TEWU, National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Civil Servants Association (CSA), Judicial Service Association of Ghana, and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had negotiated for 15 per cent increase in salaries for workers with effect from January 2008.

Mr Ayim said the National Executive of TEWU was touring the Regions to discuss the establishment of a national fund and the setting up of a company to better the lot of members.

He conveyed the condolence of TEWU to the Regional Directorate of Education on the death of its Director, Mrs. Elizabeth Ayire Mwinkaar
