The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI), has announced the death of a Ghanaian military doctor deployed within the mission.

The commander Issac Archer, died on Monday, July 21, 2008, at Sikensi (50km NW of Abidjan), after a traffic accident.

Archer, 35, had arrived in Cote d'Ivoire on 22 June 2008 and worked at UNOCI’s Ghanaian Hospital in Bouake (350 km north of Abidjan).

His death brings to 29, the number of UNOCI military deaths since the mission’s deployment in April 2004.

A statement by the UN office in Accra said UNOCI extends its sincere condolences to the bereaved family and the Government and people of Ghana.

About a fortnight ago, another Ghanaian peacekeeper died after he and seven others were attacked by insurgents in Sudan.
