The Anglican Bishop of the Cape Coast Diocese, the Right Reverend Daniel S.A. Allotey, has called on politicians to put their trust and confidence in God in the conduct and the outcome of the December 7 general election.

“They should submit themselves to the will of God and pray for his guidance since it is God who elects and ordain rulers,” Bishop Allotey said.

He was delivering a sermon at Saints Peter and Paul Church at Saltpond to mark its 85th anniversary.

The church was founded by Mr John Myles Abaado-Oppon, a merchant and citizen of the town in 1923.

Rt Rev Allotey cautioned against destruction of life and property for political reasons since such action was incompatible to nation building which every politician aimed to achieve.

The Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, expressed concern about the upsurge of crime despite the proliferating of churches.

He called on churches to reflect on their programmes to see whether they were championing the ideals and principles of Jesus Christ and commended the church for its contributions to education.

Rev Fr John Prempeh, a son of King Prempeh I, late Asantehene who was exiled to Seychelles Islands, was honoured with a plaque for being the first parish priest of the St Peter and Paul Church.

Sixty members and non-members of the church who in diverse ways contributed to the development of the church were honoured with citations.
