The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, David Quaye Annang, has called on Ghanaians to respect the laws of the land, and put a stop to the practice, whereby people were lynched on mere suspicion.

According to him, such a practice could only be described as primitive, and advised Ghanaians to have confidence in our law enforcement agencies, and cooperate with them.

He stated, “I want to make a passionate appeal to all citizens, to be very patient when suspected thieves are apprehended. The incidence of people getting lynched on mere suspicion, is very primitive, and therefore must stop. I personally called in the police twice, in the last couple of weeks, to save three persons from getting lynched. We should trust the law enforcement organs, and cooperate with them effectively, to help bring sanity into our governance system.”

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, for the construction of the Kpone District Police Headquarters at Kpone, near Tema last Tuesday, the TMA boss appealed to Ghanaians to eschew provocative languages during the electioneering period.

The Director General in-charge of Technical Services at the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Kofi Duku Arthur, noted that the police administration was happy with the swift manner, in which the Kpone Traditional Council (KTC) responded to the news of the elevation of the Kpone Police Station, to the status of a District headquarters.

He disclosed that the act of the people of Kpone, demonstrated their readiness to assist the police to combat crime, and expressed the police administration’s appreciation for their effort.

According to him, the Kpone Traditional area was increasing in population, due to influx of business activities, and as a result more police personnel had to be posted to the area, to effectively control the increasing criminal activities there.

COP Arthur stated that adequate office and residential accommodation, was the main challenge confronting the police administration nationwide, which had also affected recruitment into the Police Service.

He further disclosed that several appeals had been made on different platforms, to corporate organizations to come to the aid of the Police Service, but the response has not been encouraging.

The police boss, therefore, appealed to all stakeholders, civil societies, corporate organisations and professional bodies, to emulate the laudable initiative of the KTC to expand the police barracks.

The Paramount Chief of the Kpone Traditional Council, Nii Tetteh Otu II, noted that the Council did not hesitate to offer one acre of land to the police on request, because there was the need for a strong police presence in the area.

He explained that the people of Kpone appreciated the useful role the police played as peace makers in the area.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, appealed to the police service to provide the necessary support and logistics, especially a pick-up vehicle for the police personnel in the area, to help combat crime.
