The First Meeting of the Third Session of Parliament begins today with numerous bills and outstanding issues from the previous session high on the agenda.
They include the Domestic Violence bill which is at the consideration stage, the Extradition Treaty between Ghana and the United States and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
But amongst the key issues to engage the House on the first day will be the introduction of the newly-elected Member of Parliament for Fomena, Nana Abu Bonsrah.
The Re-denomination Policy to be rolled out in July this year, contrary to the expectations of many, will not come before Parliament for approval. According to Majority Leader Felix Owusu Agyapong a bill to consider the policy would not be necessary since the Bank of Ghana was an autonomous body.
Another controversial issue likely to come up in the first meeting would be what to do with the seat of the incarcerated MP for Nkoranza North, Eric Amoateng.
The MP had vacated his seat since November 2006 when he was arrested in the US for allegedly possessing narcotics. The Majority Leader was confident a decision would be taken on the matter during this session.
