The Tertiary Education Institutions Network, a students wing of the NDC has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party of being behind the purported plot to assassinate the MP for Tamale South Haruna Iddrisu.

A report in Wednesday’s edition of the Ghanaian Observer newspaper said two NDC MPs were part of a meeting that hatched a plan to kill Mr. Iddrisu, also Minority Spokesman on Communications.

The Northern sector of TEIN, however believes the news report was a ploy to gag the vocal NDC National Youth Organizer from criticizing the government’s policies.

According to the newspaper report, which was also carried by the Gye Nyame Concord, the young MP was being targeted because he was independently minded and again he was not promoting the interest the party founder and former President Jerry Rawlings.

He was therefore to be eliminated with immediate effect.

But TEIN has challenged the editor of the Ghanaian Observer, Egbert Faible Jnr. to come out clear on who the NDC members involved in the plot.

Anthony Gingong, Deputy National Coordinator of the TEIN, described Egbert as a praise singer of government with access to government information and such people must obviously be acting under the influence of the government.

He told Joy News correspondent Kofi Adu Domfeh that the move was simply to gag the outspoken MP for the various wrongs he has had to fault government over and therefore urged the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC to set up its own investigation into the matter.
