The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Peter Mac-Manu, has called on security agencies to be alert to flush out miscreants and other persons who would want to wreak violence during the 2008 general election.

He said: "The NPP views the 2008 elections as very crucial."

He urged the party's supporters, members and sympathizers to intensify the campaign to woo more people to join the party for a landslide victory.

Mr. Mac-Manu was briefing newsmen in Sunyani after meeting all the 24 constituency executives in the Brong Ahafo region, ministers of state, some Members of Parliament and other party members.

He congratulated members of the party for the party's retention of the Nkoranza North seat and urged them not to be complacent but rather to work harder to ensure that the party won all the 24 seats in the region.

He stressed the need for all the constituencies to remain united after the primaries and to rally behind those elected.

Mr. Mac-Manu said the NPP cherished violence-free elections and pledged the party's commitment and preparedness to be peaceful, law abiding and well focused in its electioneering campaigns.

He explained that the use of the Council of Elders in settling disputes within the party was very paramount and tasked constituencies without the council to set them up immediately.

Mr. J.H. Mensah, Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, advised the executives and members of the party to unite to consolidate the gains made so far and to embrace defectors to the party.

He told party members to vote for candidates who had the potential to efficiently tackle issues of national concern and advised them to eschew actions that could mar the 2008 general election.
