Gabriel Pwamang, General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC), has said that the focus of the party when voted into power in 2008 would be to rebuild an independent economy based on the internal resources of the country.

This, he said, would help reduce the heavy dependence of resources for development from donors.

Mr Pwamang was addressing a meeting of representatives of the Party from the various constituencies in the Ashanti region in Kumasi at the weekend.

The meeting was aimed at briefing the representatives of the activities and programmes of the Party towards the 2008 elections.

He said the expectations of the people that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would reduce poverty as well as minimizing the high cost of education and health have not been achieved.

Mr Pwamang said since agriculture is the backbone of the economy, the PNC would re-introduce selected subsidies in the form of inputs to improve agriculture.

The General Secretary appealed to the electorate to vote NPP out of office and give the mandate to the PNC in 2008.

He announced that the Party would soon organize training workshops for its polling agents and supporters to help equip them with the skills to carry on with its programmes and activities at the various levels.

Thomas Akum-Young, Regional Chairman of the Party said the regional branch has drawn a comprehensive campaign programmes to win more members for the party.

He appealed to the supporters to work hard to enable the Party to win the next general elections.

Abraham Kabah, Regional Secretary, stressed the need for members to be committed to the aims and objectives of the party.

During an open forum, the representatives appealed to the delegates to choose a dedicated leader as its flag-bearer during the congress to be held this year.

They also called for the establishment of an information unit at the various regional offices to help the development and growth of the party.
