Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Member of Parliament for Manhyia has appealed to prospective delegates to the impending congress of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to judge him by his competence, achievements and vision and choose him as the flagbearer.

Dr Addo-Kufuor made this statement when he launched his Greater Accra campaign team over the weekend in Accra.

He said some of his achievements were the handling of the Ministries of Defence and Interior, which are very sensitive portfolios in any country.

"I executed with competence, diplomacy and tact which won me the best Minister in 2003."

Dr Addo-Kufuor said he has brought sanity and discipline into the military by disbanding quasi-military groupings and integrating them into the mainstream army, as well as improving military/civilian relationship.

He urged the would be delegates to "go for the best man who could improve" the firm socio-economic and political foundation, which has been laid by the NPP government.

Nana Asafo-Agyaye, Greater Accra Campaign Manager for Dr Addo-Kufuor appealed to members to relegate to the background the dynasty issue or what is being referred to as "brother go, brother come" propaganda.

He said the cardinal principle of dynasty or monarchy is that the seat is not allowed to be competed for, "there is always some one ready from the royal lineage to take over."

Nana Asafo-Agyaye said in the case of Dr Addo-Kufuor he went through the processes as the constitution of the land stipulates when he was nominated as a Minister and did not enjoyed a preferential treatment because his brother was the President.

He said the same constitution does not debar him from vying for the highest seat of the land.

Albert Atta Annor, National Campaign Coordinator said Dr Addo-Kufuor achievements are not only in his constituency and Defence Ministry alone, but was the brainchild of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which is in operation today.

He appealed to the delegates to critically assess the contestant and pick someone who can unite the party.

The launch was witnessed by Niibi Ayibonte, former MP for Odododiodoo constituency; Solomon Darko, former MP for Madina/Abokobi; Agyaadu Amarteifio, Director of Logistic, Albert Afaglo, NPP Greater Accra Regional Organiser and a host of party sympathizers.
