Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister last weekend said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would use constitutional and legitimate means to win the 2008 elections.

He asked politicians who were threatening to create confusion when they lost the elections to reconsider their decisions "Because Ghana is paramount above political parties and individuals."

Mr Dery made the observation at an NPP rally at Nandom after presenting 12 motorbikes to party activists at Nandom and Lawra to facilitate their campaigns in the constituency.

About 500 National Democratic Congress (NDC) activists in Nandom who had defected to NPP were introduced at the rally.

"Leaders and members of the NPP as mature politicians would not create confusion if we loose the elections, but hand over power to the winner even though NPP is likely to hand over to another NPP Government".

Mr Dery noted that the NPP Government since 2001 had performed creditably to merit another victory in 2008.

He advised members, activists and sympathizers of the Party to campaign devoid of insults and character assassination in order not to mar their hard won reputation over the years.

Mr Dery expressed appreciation for those who had defected from the NDC for their boldness and assured them that the NPP leadership would endeavour to make them comfortable in the Party.

He pointed out that Government had created avenues for job creation not for political expediency, but to reduce the high rate of unemployment and curb the perennial exodus of skilled labour from the country.

Alhaji Abuduraman Upper West Regional Chairman of NPP, appealed to members of the Party not to engage in any confrontation, but use the Government's performance as the yardstick to campaign for more votes for the Party.

"The NPP Government has over the years constructed and rehabilitated roads, hospitals and provided potable water for most communities and that would be the basis to campaign for more votes to continue with our good governance for the country," he added.

A Spokesman for those who had defected from the NDC appealed for assistance to convince others 'sitting on the fence' to join the NPP.
