The newly created Nanumba South District Assembly in the Northern Region, has between 2005 and June 2007 spent more than 8.5 billion cedis on development projects in the area.

About 7.3 billion cedis came from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and 1.2 billion cedis from the District Wide Assisted Projects.

Additionally, 796.8 million cedis that came from the HIPC Fund and funds from the Community-Based Rural Development Projects were also meant for development projects.

The 2,096,368,263 billion cedis District Assembly Hall Complex has been completed while the rest of the projects that were under constructions included classroom blocks, offices, stores, KVIPs and urinals.

Mr. Thomas Donkor Okaja disclosed these in an interview with the GNA at Wulensi at the Weekend after inspecting the projects.

He said about 2.5 billion cedis contract had also been awarded for the construction of classroom blocks and teachers' quarters to facilitate teaching and learning.

He mentioned Banduli, Lahito, Lungni, Gbumgbayili, Gbungbaliga, Gunguni, Nabayili and Wulensi as communities that were expected to benefit from the classroom and teachers' quarters projects.

The rest were Chichagi, Montanaya, Nakpayili, Moba, Koyaja, Kabreya, Gmanpedo, Kpalem, Lankani and Kanjokura.

He said 36 out of the 43 total projects awarded in 2005 had been completed while the rest were progressing steadily.

Mr. Okaja appealed to the Government to increase allocation of the District's share of the DACF to facilitate development in the area.

He said because the district was newly created, it needed enough funds initiate more projects and to improve the infrastructure base of the area.

Mr. Okaja gave the assurance that communities that had not yet benefited from development projects would be considered in other schemes.
