The Foot Soldiers Welfare Association (FOSWA) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is not to promote any presidential aspirant but rather to galvanize support to ensure victory for the Party in the 2008 elections.

This was stated by Mr Ebo Mensah, National Co-ordinating Director of FOSWA at a meeting of over thousand foot soldiers of the party from all over the country in Accra.

He said the primary interest of the group was to motivate disenchanted foot soldiers not to sit on the fence during the electioneering campaign period.

Mr Mensah stressed that FOSWA should not be seen as an "Aluta" group to cause trouble but rather an Association to mobilise "these people whose immense political strategy won us power in the year 2000 and 2004 general elections".

The Co-ordinating Director said the group was not for any of the people vying to lead the party to the election but was only interested in building a solid foundation for the firm take-off of the one who would be selected as the flag-bearer to ensure victory "hands down".

Mr Elias Teye, National Co-ordinator in charge of General Organisation, said the Association had come to stay and urged all foot soldiers of the Party to join.

He said: "So far we have been able to organize over ten thousand members from 200 constituencies and the number keeps mounting on."

Mr Teye stated that after the formal inauguration of the Association in September this year, FOSWA would launch a house-to-house campaign code named "Operation Baby Elephant Walk" to propagate the achievements of the NPP administration.
