The Minority Leader, Mr Alban Bagbin is billed to clash with the President’s nominee for the interior ministry, Nana Obiri-Boahen, when he appears before the Appointments Committee on Monday.

The two have been exchanging hot words on radio over the days, when Mr Bagbin, a ranking member of the Appointments Committee, described him as “hot-headed”. Also, he said Nana Obiri-Boahen’s bias for his party would override that of the nation because he still holds office as the Brong Ahafo regional chairman of the ruling NPP.

Speaking to Joy News, Mr Bagbin served notice that he would put it to his legal colleague when he appears before them that he is “hot-headed”.

He said: “For him in particular, I will try and take him through the reasons why I referred to him as a hot-headed person and give him the opportunity to clear himself of that tag… We have a record of his performance so we would take that through the process and see whether such a person can be entrusted with the power and authority at the ministry of interior.”

Mr Bagbin told Joy News the committee decided to attach a certificate of urgency to the vetting to enable most of the nominees who are contesting the NPP parliamentary primaries have time for their campaign.

He said: “We would as usual look at the laws governing eligibility and qualification governing the nominees…and try as much as possible to see whether they even understand the whole concept of democratic governance. So we would not gloss over anything.”

Ministers-designate for foreign affairs, Akwasi Osei-Adjei, Information and National Orientation, Oboshie Sai-Cofie, Manpower, Youth and Employment, Nana Akomea and Nana Obiri-Boahen, interior ministry as minister of state will appear before the committee.

The committee, chaired by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Freddie Blay will also vet Dr Akoto Osei, Minister of State at the Finance Ministry and Joe Baidoo-Ansah who has been nominated to take over from Alan Kyerematen as Minister of Trade and Industries on Tuesday and others on Wednesday.
