The Sunyani East constituency of the National Democratic Congress has extended its wishes to Nana Obiri Boahen, the regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party on his nomination as a Minister of State at the Interior ministry and urged him not to use his office against the NDC should he receive approval from Parliament.

The NDC acting regional chairman, Raphael Cubagee said that Nana Boahen’s nomination was long overdue considering the role he had played in his party over the years as the Brong Ahafo regional chairman.

“It is our wish that the nominee will not be used as a scape goat should there be any future reshuffle in the government”, saying that Nana Boahen’s open support for the presidential candidature of outgoing Foreign Minister, Nana Akuffo Addo could be used as an excuse to get him reshuffled.

He advised Nana Boahen not to resign from the position as a result of pressure of work as he had done with two former positions he held.

“In 2002/2003 football season, he resigned as chairman of the Tano Bofoakwa Football Club after only two weeks of taking up the post when supporters put pressure on management”.

“Again, he withdrew from the Sunyani East parliamentary race of his party in 1996, 2000 and 2005, when he came under pressure from his party’s leadership”, Mr Cubagee said and promised Nana Boahen of the NDC’s readiness to match the NPP boot for boot in the next elections.
