Former Operations Director of the Ghana Police, ACP Kofi Boakye is reported to be preparing to stand as Member of Parliament for the Manhyia Constituency in the 2008 general elections.

A news report in the Gye Nyame Concord quoted sources close to ACP Boakye, who said that since he was asked to go on leave by the Police Service over the infamous meeting he held with alleged illicit drug dealers, the young and dynamic police officer has been contemplating quitting the Service and venturing either into private security business or politics.

The sources said Mr. Boakye would opt to contest the Manhyia parliamentary seat in order to enter the nation’s eminent House as an Honourable Member.

According to his confidant, ACP Boakye’s decision to quit the Police Service is motivated by two major concerns, including his suspicion that the Service might not recall him to continue his anti-robbery campaign, which mad him popular in the eyes of the general public.

When contacted, ACP Boakye declined to confirm or deny the story, saying it was premature to discuss his future at the moment, citing the on-going cocaine trial involving Kwabena Amaning aka Tagor, and Alhaji Isaah Abass as a case that would have an impact on his career.

He however pledged that he would make his future intentions clear at the appropriate time when the chips are down and the dust had settled.
