An engineer and economist, Dr. Kwaku Osafo also wants to be the flagbearer of the Convention Peoples Party, (CPP).

His decision and announcement to join the race brings the number of politicians contesting to lead the CPP in 2008 to five.

The others are, Dr. Kwesi Nduom, Prof. Agyeman-Badu Akosa, the former head of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Mr. George Agudey, a lawyer and businessman who lead the party in the last general elections and Mr. Bright Akwetey, a legal practitioner.

Dr. Osafo is a key member of the CPP offshoot, the Patriots.

In a JOY NEWS report on Thursday, he said he is not worried that he is not well known like some of the other candidates.

He says he is confident voters will choose him above the others based on his track record.

Some political analysts see this development as good for the party, as it is likely to rejuvenate the CPP and make it a political force to reckon with.
