The presiding judge of the Nsawam Circuit Court, last Wednesday ordered the arrest and incarceration of the former Member of Parliament for Akuapim South, Mr. Wiafe Danquah.

The Ex-MP was alleged to have landed a thunderous slap on the face of a police prosecutor, Chief Inspector P.K. Andrah for allegedly calling him a "fucking lawyer."

A witness narrating the bizarre story said that the incident, which happened in the morning attracted bystanders who thronged the already packed court to witness it.

Giving an account of the incident, an eyewitness said, Mr. Wiafe who is a professional legal practitioner asked P. K. Andrah to withdraw from a case he is handling as prosecutor to prevent a conflict of interest since he is related to one of the parties.

The witness said as the argument became heated, the prosecutor called the former MP a "fucking lawyer."

Mr. Wiafe then drew the attention of the presiding magistrate who was able to cool down tempers. The witness added that a few minutes later the prosecutor used the same words again on the former MP.

This time, the former MP could no longer hold his temper and therefore turned and gave the prosecutor a big slap that left him dazed. He said when the prosecutor was resuscitated few seconds later, his reading glasses were nowhere to be found.

The presiding magistrate who had by that time become infuriated, ordered that lawyer Danquah be taken into police cells.

When the prosecutor, who is also the station master for the Nsawam Police Station was contacted, he confirmed the story and explained that he is a prosecutor in a case and had filed for an appeal that the case be withdrawn from the lower court to the circuit court since it was a first degree felony.

He said Lawyer Wiafe Danquah objected to that and insulted him and called him a "stupid man" alleging that he had used 'juju' on him.

He said, he replied by also calling him a stupid lawyer. The policeman said the presiding judge was able to cool down tempers with both parties resuming their seats for proceedings to continue.

The policeman said, all of a sudden Mr. Wiafe Danquah jumped on him and gave him a heavy slap, which made him feel dizzy for some few minutes.

According to him, the judge had to prematurely close proceedings for the day to enable him report the case to the police where he was issued with a medical report to attend hospital. Mr. Wiafe was subsequently arrested.

Asked why he did not report the matter to the judge when Wiafe Danquah called him a stupid man, he said the whole case was before the court and that when Danquah called him a stupid man the presiding judge heard it.

He alleged that the lawyer has been behaving like that for a long time for obvious reasons.

He explained that Wiafe Danquah has been defending some 'wee' cases and anytime that he had applied for bail he, the victim, had always opposed him, hence that assault on him.

"So, he continues to abuse me and that was not his first time. He continues to humiliate me before the public any time just because he is a lawyer."

He said he decided not to reply him just to show that he was in full control of affairs in the court and later filed a case of assault against the lawyer.

The MP is expected to appear before the Nsawam circuit court today.
