Contrary to claims in certain constituencies of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region that some national and regional executive members of the party were planning to get certain candidates who had filed their nominations to contest the party's parliamentary primaries to go unopposed, the Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Sammy Crabbe has stated that there would be no imposition in any constituency in the Region.

According to him, there was no way the party would impose any candidate irrespective of his or her status on any constituency for whatever reason.

He denied that some national executive members of the party had thrown their weight behind some of the aspiring candidates and were attempting to use their positions to impose those candidates on their respective constituencies.

Speaking to media personnel last Friday after the parliamentary primaries of the Kpone Katamanso constituency, which saw Mr. Oko Amankwah winning the contest, Mr. Crabbe said imposing a candidate on any constituency would only create problems for the party in that constituency.

He noted that the party was aware that there were cracks and fragmentations in some of the constituencies and therefore going there to force a candidate on such constituencies would only aggravate the woes of the party.

The regional chairman explained that " the executives have intentionally decided to hold on to the dates and venues for the holding of. the primaries in certain constituencies such as Shai-Osudoku, Odododiodio among others because of problems brewing in those areas.

He disclosed that instead of going to such fragile constituencies in the midst of all those problems to conduct the primaries, they have decided to go to the ground to solve all those problems and restore peace before holding the primaries.

He also hinted that the executive members would be moving into all the orphaned constituencies of the party where the primaries have already been held to organize programmes such as seminars or workshops so as to educate all the polling station chairpersons to ensure that there would be co-existence among their front before the elections can take place.

According to him, by so doing they would be able to mend all wounds and grief burning in the hearts of all party members and which has the tendency to derail their common interest in marshalling all resources both human and money to win victory for the party come 2008.
