An aspiring presidential candidate of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Dr. Kwaku Osarfo has lamented that before Ghana can be seen as a united country, the gap between the north and south in terms of development must be closed.
According to him, that is the vision the nation’s first head of state, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah brought when he led Ghana to gain independence from the British.
The CPP aspirant disclosed this to newsmen when he and some group of aspiring national executives of the party toured some constituencies in the Northern Region to solicit for the support of members of the party and to tell supporters what was happening in the CPP.
"The development initiatives between the north and south are wide and clear as if to say that, Ghana is divided into two nations".
He added that, the north is very much deprived and to let it catch up with the southern part of the country in terms of economic growth, every ruling government must initiate policies that can benefit its citizens.
He noted that, the huge land mass in the regions can be transformed into an agriculture avenue for citizens to get jobs.
Dr. Osarfo, who is an economist, noted that he would want to see Ghana as an industrial nation if nominated during congress to lead the party to the 2008 polls and subsequently wins power to become the president of Ghana.
Turning to his political aspirations, Dr. Osarfo stressed that, the CPP is known for its unity of purpose. The only thing that can rally the people behind the CPP is when the party is united.
Mr. Bright Akwetey, one of the campaign coordinators of Dr. Osarfo also noted that, it is not enough to come to the north and tell supporters that, the aspirant would build schools, hospitals, construct roads, potable water and other things for them, adding, that is a truism from all politicians.
Mr. Akwetey disclosed that, the number of people they have met in the various constituencies in the Northern Region attests to the fact that, the CPP is gaining momentum and if they all come out in their numbers during election, the CPP would win power.
