The Yendi District Chief Executive, Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijini, has been reported by The Enquirer to have revealed that contracts he is alleged to have been awarded were rather awarded to the ruling party using documents of private companies as decoys.

He said proceeds from the contracts were intended to be used to finance the party.

The DCE was said to have made these revelations in defence of allegations against him that companies linked to him had been benefiting from huge contracts in the Northern Region.

The Enquirer said during an interview it had with the DCE, he suggested that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) was quietly being funded through awards of contracts at districts and municipal levels.

Alhaji Tijini in the interview with the paper in his office, maintained that some of the contracts which were being linked to him were rather awarded and executed on behalf of the party.

"These projects were executed on behalf of the party", he said.

The projects, some of which cost between ˘270 to ˘300 million were all executed to benefit the ruling party.

NPP stalwart, Mr. Ibrahim Yahaya Abu had accused the DCE of diverting contracts to his company Wunzoya Construction Ltd, said he did not own a construction company and was not involved in the operation of any company.

Alhaji Tijini also denied taking advantage of his position as DCE and chairman of the Tender Board Committee to award contracts to companies linked to him.

He also hinted that that some of the projects were executed on behalf of the party using borrowed contract documents.

According to The Enquirer, the DCE took its reporter through the district contracts dairy for 2006-2007 and said Wunzoya Construction Company Ltd and others with valid documents were used to bid for projects on behalf of the party.
