Alhaji Baba Jamal, Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has predicted that the Party would win massively in the 2008 general election.

"We are aiming at a first round victory in the elections," he said adding that this conviction was based on the assessment of the recent door-to-door campaign being undertaken by the Party.

He said the assessment revealed that many Ghanaians were yearning for the come back of the NDC because of bad economic policies and leadership by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since it came to power.

Alhaji Jamal was speaking at a workshop for NDC ward executives in the Asawasi constituency in Kumasi at the weekend. It was sponsored by Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.

The Deputy General Secretary pointed out that the failure to find solution to the energy crisis, in addition to an upsurge in armed robbery, reported contract killings and the high cost of living were ample testimonies that the NPP has failed the nation.

He entreated NDC activists to step up efforts at explaining the Party's manifesto to the citizenry, saying, it was the only panacea to addressing the nation's socio-economic challenges.

Mr Daniel Ohene Agyekum, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC admonished supporters to shun arrogance, backbiting and disrespect for the Party's constitution.

He called on them to always engage in activities that would promote the NDC's interest and development saying it was "the only viable opposition party capable of giving the NPP a good run for their money in the 2008 elections".

Alhaji Muntaka stressed the need for NDC ward executives to unite and work hard in ensuring that the party retains the seat in the next elections.
