The Member of Parliament (MP) for Weija, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway over the weekend commissioned a twelve-seater toilet facility valued at one hundred and fifty million cedis to the people of Ablekuma as part of her social responsibility in the community.

She also donated four wheelchairs to the physically handicapped. The project was funded from her share of the MP's Common Fund.

Addressing a gathering to discuss various issues affecting the community at Ablekuma, Hon. Botchway highlighted the numerous projects going on in the community saying, "This is a true reflection of the Government's commitment in developing the community and the country at large".

She said the Weija constituency was the largest in terms of population, yet it was the least developed constituency in the country and challenged all the residents to come on board to help develop the community together.

"Development issue is not only the prerogative of the Government and MP but everyone within the community", she noted.

Hon. Botchway indicated that in order to make education better for the people of the community, a six classroom block which was at its roofing stage had been built for the Ablekuma Basic School, Galatia and Mallam to ease the burden of travelling long distances to school.

She again said to facilitate easy movement of the people from one place to another the road network between Mallam and Gbawe had been awarded on contract while that of Anyaa and Ablekuma was to be awarded.

She said the Anyaa and Ablekuma road when completed would ease the burden of traffic in the city as it would be a route for motorists traveling to Pokuase, Nsawam, Kumasi and other communities.

She further noted that in order to make education affordable for the people of Ablekuma, the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education and the School Feeding Programme were introduced to allow parents to send their wards to school free of charge and also to enable the children enjoy good meals. She said all these were made possible as part of her share of the HIPC fund.

She continued that the drainage problem of the community would soon be addressed and advised the people to work together and also ensure that no one put up any building on waterways.

Ms. Botchway also touched on the electricity project in the community stressing that it would be completed by the end of the year so that the people would enjoy a better life in the community.

She cautioned those who have been collecting money from people towards the electrification project to stop the practice, as the law would not spare them when caught.

Hon. Botchway encouraged the residents to be more focused on developmental issues by forming community watchdog committees to help curb criminal activities in the community rather than indulging in acts of indiscipline.

The Ablekuma Mantse, Nii Larbi Mensah thanked Hon. Shirley Botchway for her immense contribution towards development in the community and called for unity among the people to help the MP to carry her activities efficiently.
