Minister of State at the Ministry of Aviation, Gloria Akuffo, has inspected Kumasi Airport that is undergoing rehabilitation.

She was accompanied Mr Ellis Hughes Tamakloe, Deputy Director, Technical Division and Mr Hamidu Adagrudu, Deputy Director of Administration of the Ministry of Aviation. The group were taken round by Mr Paolo Nantello of the Consar Limited, the contractors.

She inspected the VIP Lounge, the Control Room, Meteorological Services Department, the terminal, the Rescue and Fire Station and the tarmac.

Mr Dickson Akoto, a representative of the Bans Consult Limited, the consultant of the project, said contract was awarded on September 14 and so far 80 per cent of the work had been completed.

He said the remaining job involving painting, fixing of glasses and doors and others would be completed by the end of December.

Miss Akuffo expressed satisfaction with the work so far executed at the airport and said there had been a lot of improvement since her previous inspection about a month ago.

She said arrangements were underway to provide temporary lighting systems at the tarmac because of the short time left to begin the Ghana 2008 football tournament.

Miss Akuffo said the rehabilitation of the Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi and Accra airports cost 45 million dollars and that the facilities at these airports had met international standards.
