The Chief of Staff, Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani has spoken to Joy FM explaining what caused the altercation at the NPP Congress.
According to him, reports reached him that Lord Commey, National Organiser of the party, had alleged that some people were giving money to some delegates.
Mr. Mpiani said he confronted the party Chairman, Mr. Peter Mac Manu about the allegation and he denied any knowledge of the claim.
Mr. Mpiani, who described the manner of Lord Commey's comment as irresponsible, said he then asked that the matter be investigated and if found true, those involved arrested; on the other hand if the allegation was false, then Lord Commey should be made to apologise since the claim was a serious indictment against the enire party.
The party Chairman, according to Mpini, said he could not find Lord Commey.

Mr. Mpiani said when he asked of the whereabouts of Mr. Afoko, he was told that he was with the police. He followed up to the police officers to enquire of Afoko's crime and for which they were holding him, upon which he was told that they were only protecting him from being atacked.
Mpiani said he insisted that if he had done no wrong, he should be allowed to go and cast his vote, upon which he was set free to go. Unfortunately Paul Afoko could not cast his vote because his turn had elapsed.
Paul Afoko, apart from being a staunch supporter of Alan Kyerematen's bid for the presidential flagbearership, is also a member of the NPP Finance Committee.
Mr. Mpiani acknowledged that Mr. Afoko had some support for a candidate among the aspirants but he would not say who or why he did that.
He denied claims that he was sent there by President Kufuor to see to it that Mr. Afoko voted, explaining that he had not seen the President since he left the congress grounds long before the voting started.
Meanwhile Mr. Mac Manu says he has reported the matter to the Legon Police.
