Claims by the youth wing of Alan Kyerematen’s campaign, that insulting text messages are being circulated by supporters of New Patriotic Party presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo to some losing candidates, have been described as baseless and unfounded.

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a member of Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign team, has told Joy News that the claims cannot be true since with the contest over, Nana Akufo-Addo has been engaged in fruitful discussions with the losing aspirants with the view to collectively prosecuting a united campaign for election 2008.

Gabby said the claims could only be coming from external forces bent on creating confusion in the party.

“The internal conflict is over, there is no more anything like an Akufo-Addo camp or an Alan Kyerematen camp, or Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, Osafo Maafo or Dan Botwe camp. That internal conflict was over as soon as the flagbearer’s hand was raised to show that the contest is over, so there is nothing like that. In any event if during the heat of the contest, the so-called Akufo-Addo camp did not indulge in insulting text messages, how much more the contest is over.”

Gabby said what the NPP as a party ought to be mindful of is external factors trying to create the impression that there is still a struggle within. “There is no struggle within, Alan Kyerematen is in productive fruitful discussion with Akufo Addo and all the other contestants are engaging in fruitful discussions as to how to run the 2008 campaign with Akufo-Addo and really Akufo-Addo is now the party’s candidate. There is no longer an Akufo-Addo camp and Alan Kyerematen camp.”

Gabby said it is obvious some of the losing candidates put in a lot of effort in their bid to win the leadership position, however with the contest over, the focus of all in the party should be to build a united party rather than sending around text messages, maintaining that at the moment there are no different camps but one NPP camp.
