The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has advised the flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ignore any campaign of character assassination that would be waged against him.

He said the position the NPP flag-bearer currently holds would put him under the microscope and even lead to insults and vilification but he should live above board and resist the temptation to respond to the negative attacks.

Otumfuo, who gave the advice when Nana Akufo-Addo called on him and the Asanteman Council in Kumasi on Thursday to introduce himself to them said, the NPP flag-bearer in such circumstances, should allow the party machinery to counter any such attacks on his person.

The Asantehene noted that the development of Ghana and the welfare of the people should be of paramount importance to the NPP flag-bearer, pointing out that the issues at stake are about job creation, wealth generation, peace and stability of the macro-economy of the country.

Otumfuo said there are other candidates in the race for the presidency in the December elections and success would depend on the quality and packaging of the campaign message, as well as its dissemination.

He acknowledged the capability of Nana Akufo-Addo and wished him well as he sets on the campaign to win the country's presidency.

Nana Akufo-Addo, who was accompanied to the Manhyia Palace by some of his former contestants in last year's presidential primaries, thanked the Asantehene and the people of Kumasi for their support which in no small way and measure contributed to his success at the NPP congress.

He pledged to pursue programmes and policies that would be of benefit to the people of Ghana and prayed for the support of the people of Ashanti Region.
