A Political Scientist and Executive Director of the Centre for Democratic Development – Ghana (CDD-Ghana) has commended President J. A. Kufuor for bestowing the nation’s highest honour, Companion of the Star of Ghana on Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, Presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Prof. Emmanuel Gyimah-Boadi said Prof. Mills deserves the award because of his immense contributions to building a democratic culture in Ghana. He said Prof. Mills deserves the award for conceding defeat to President Kufuor in the 2000 general elections.

He said Prof. Mills’ concession makes him stand tall for the award, and it also shows government’s recognition of his statesmanship and contributions to national development.

President Kufuor, has nominated Prof. John Mills and157 other Ghanaians for honours which is to be conferred on them on July 3, 2008 as part of activities marking this year’s Republic Day celebrations which falls on July 1.
