The tension which rocked the Tema East constituency NPP ended on Tuesday with the election of the former Metropolitan Chief Executive, David Ashong Narh as the parliamentary candidate for the constituency in the 2008 general elections.

He polled 71 out of the total vote cast with the incumbent Member of Parliament Mr. Ishmael Ashittey polling 49 votes.

The election was supervised by officials of the electoral commission in Tema. Following his defeat, Mr. Ashittey quietly walked out of the hall where the election was held while supporters of Mr. Narh jubilated.

In an interview with Adom News, Mr. Ashong Narh rejected claims that he only won the benevolence and the support of the disqualified candidates, Titus Glover and Agyeman Prempeh.

Meanwhile the current MP Ishmael Ashittey has pledged to work with Mr. Narh to ensure that party retains the seat.
