Listen to Dr. Edward on his choice of running mate

The presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Dr. Edward Mahama, is considering George Aggudey as his possible running mate for the 2008 elections.

George Opesika Aggudey, a business tycoon, contested the 2004 presidential election on the ticket of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) but lost woefully, with l.00% of the total votes cast.

The PNC flag-bearer, who also managed 1.92% in the 2004 presidential elections, told Joy News’ Sammy Darko that Mr. Aggudey is being considered for the position because they share the same ideology – the Nkrumaist ideology.

Aggudey contested the CPP’s presidential slot during the party’s congress in Kumasi last year, but lost to the incumbent flag-bearer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom.

Dr. Mahama said he is not perturbed by the failure of Mr. Aggudey to shine in his party and was confident the duo will surely form the next government.

“I have always maintained that I am the best person for Ghana,” he said.

He also denied that he is poaching Aggudey from the CPP because of his (Aggudey’s) financial background.

“Giving money without a message can go no where; the message for me is the most important.

Aggudey is CPP and I am generic CPP, so basically, if we are talking about Nkrumaist unity, he may help in that direction;

Dr. Mahama said he is taking his time to analyze situation, and “at the appropriate time” he will name his running mate.
