The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has revealed that highly-rated Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu has decided to play for the Black Stars.
In the past, Salisu has been reluctant to join Charles Akonnor’s team. In the most recent Black Stars list for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the centre-back was absent, sparking fear among Ghanaians.
But, Asante Twum has assured Black Stars fans that Salisu will join the side in the future.
“Mohammed Salisu has confirmed to play for us and he is part of our plans. The moment isn’t right to invite him,” he told Nhyira FM.
“We are only happy he has overcome his challenges at Southampton and started getting playing time. He is top quality material for the Premier League undoubtedly and will help us.
“When COVID-19 restrictions are lifted he will be back on our radar, "Asante Twum added.
Ghana will battle South Africa on 25th March and host Sao Tome and Principe three days later.
Salisu is currently with his club Southampton where he has enjoyed lots of minutes of late.
