Bukom defeated Nima 3-2 in the Greater Accra Polo game to win the Independence Polo Championship played at the Accra Polo Grounds on Saturday.

The game, which formed part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Ghana's Independence, saw Bukom opening the scores through Ricky Khubchandani when he fired home a terrific shot two minutes inside the first Chukka.

Nima had the chance to equalize two minutes later when they were awarded a 60-yarder penalty but Kenneth Quartey messed up the opportunity as he shot off target.

Karim Captan however put Nima on level terms in the fifth minute but Michael Mahama restored Bukom's lead a minute before the end of the first Chukka.

The second Chukka saw Bukom registering their third goal through George Agyemang while Richard Gyamfi scored the second goal for Nima in the third Chukka.

The best player award went to Michael Mahama of Bukom.

Mr Kenneth Quartey, Captain of the Accra Polo Club commended the players for approaching the game with enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

He called on corporate bodies and institutions to help develop the sport in the country.

The 'Trustees Cup' Championship would be played on Saturday, March 24 to officially commission the new facilities of the Club.
