The Ohene Djan Sports Stadium will for the first time have dressing rooms for the spectators who visit the stadium for matches.

The facility, the first of its kind in the country is to enable fans to enjoy comfort at the stadium as well as metamorphosing it to international standard.

Briefing the GNA Sports on Thursday after a visit to the national stadium, Mr Jimmy Castagna, Technical Director of Micheletti and Co, contractors renovating the 40,000-seater stadium said the spectators’ dressing room is one of many new facilities that would be at the venue on completion.

He explained that the facility would accommodate about 180 spectators at a time and has 13 unit washrooms.

This is exclusive of the four dressing rooms to be used by participating teams and inclusive of 180 toilets at the “National Wembley.”

Mr Castagna further explained that new facility had anti-vandal measures, and cannot be destroyed by irate fans.

“This is to prevent fans who might be tempted to rip off something in protest of defeat of their teams.”

He said that all the devices were not within the public domain and fans would only have to press a button for any services they wanted.

This therefore means that there will be no electrical switches in the spectators’ dressing room.

“You will only need to press a button, for the water to flow.”

Work on other facilities such as warm up rooms, massage rooms, doping centre and mixed zone have all reached advanced stages.

Mr Castagna expressed optimism that the renovation would be completed on schedule in readiness for Ghana 2008 Nations Cup.

The Italian company is expected to hand over the stadium to the Local Organising Committee on October 31.
