Mini Olympics come off June 23

The British Council will organise a Mini-Olympic Games for selected schools in Accra and Tema on Saturday, June 23, at the Nicholson Sports Stadium in Burma Camp.

The event dubbed “Dreams and Teams Mini Olympic Games” is to commemorate World Olympic Day, which would be celebrated around the World at the same time.

A statement signed by Diana Yanney, Communications Manager of British Council said about 600 children between the ages of 12-19 would be competing in 10 different local fun games for their respective schools.

It explained that the games had been planned and would be delivered by 17 young leaders.

The participating institutions are Juros Kirby School, Al-Falah Islamic School, Rachel Preparatory and JSS, Maamobi Bethany Preparatory and JSS and Association International School from Accra.

Those from Tema are Sal-Valley Preparatory and JSS, United Faith Preparatory School, Akodzo JSS, St. Andrews 4, 5 and 6 JSS, St Anthony R/C Basic School and Oriens Complex Schools.

Dreams and Teams is an initiative of the British Council and Youth Sport Trust (YST) established to develop youth leadership and citizenship skills of young people.

It organizes training courses for overseas Local Tutors, to train young people as leaders and to organize sports festivals in their community.

The Mini-Olympics will be graced by Mr Osei Bonsu Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Mr Gordon Wetherell, British High Commissioner, and Mr Moses Anibaba, Director of British Council Ghana.
