In an expected shake-up by Coach Bashiru Hayford of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, former international, Kwadwo Poku is expected to make a comeback to the fold of the Porcupine Warriors.

The shake-up, which will see the about 50 players at the club reduced to 35, is reported to have created some unease in the playing body.

According to a report carried by the Graphic Sports, some big names have already started flying out as likely victims of the exercise but the coach is keeping his cards close to his chest until the final day.

While the coach keeps mute over who would make the final list, the big question remains whether controversial Kofi Abanga would make the list of 35 players.

Communications Director of the club, Kwame Baah-Nuako, has told the Graphic Sports, “I don’t want to comment on the Abanga matter because it is not an issue worth commenting on”.

However, one fresh name that would be among the squad is former international, Kwadwo Poku, whom Asante Kotoko shot into the limelight.

Bashiru Hayford had insisted he can do with 35 players for the next season because the practice where too many players were registered with many of them failing to make even one league appearance did not do the club any good.

Poku is coming back to Kotoko after playing for FC Midtjiland in Denmark for some three seasons.

He lost his place in the national team, the Black Stars, one season after joining the Danish side and had since remained quiet on the soccer scene.

Poku was a sharp shooter and he thinks he can re-launch his career at home with Asante Kotoko.

According to Baah-Nuako, “the signing of Poku is almost a done deal.”

Poku’s presence in Kotoko is likely to add to the potency of the team’s attack for the next season. Last Wednesday, he was at the Police Park to witness a training match between the team that toured Germany and the one that toured Sudan.

The heavily patronized march, which ended 1-0 in favour of the Germany squad, courtesy a Michael Ofosu Appiah goal, was to give the technical team a clear picture of the final 35-man squad to be picked.

Among the new faces likely to receive the nod of Coach Hayford are; Prince Anokye, Prince Amponsah, Kwabena Yaro, Mohammed Muyei, Adamu Mohammed and Francis Coffie.

They would be battling for places with old faces like Daniel Bomfa, John Cudjoe, Edmund Owusu Ansah, Nana Arhin Duah and Michael Ofosu Appiah.
