The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Ghana 2008 African Cup of Nations have inaugurated the Accra-venue medical and doping sub - committee in their quest to make the event a success.

The nine-member committee will be responsible for all medical and health related problems within the Greater Accra Region, one of the four venues hosting the 26th edition of the biennial championships with additional responsibilities for the Eastern and Volta Regions.

The committee, the first of its kind to be inaugurated in the country includes three co-opted members of the main Medical and Doping Committee.

Magnus Rex Danquah, Chief Operating Officer of the LOC, who inaugurated the Committee, said the expertise of the members will be vital in the various build-up events to the competition which includes road shows, post qualification Jamboree and celebration of the official days of the qualified teams among others to avert any medical dangers.

He urged the members to discharge their duties to the maximum best as their quest to host the best-ever edition of the biennial fiesta in the country.

Mr Danquah assured the committee of his outfit's support and urged it to link up with their colleagues from the other regions to facilitate their responsibilities.

Dr Irene Agyepong Amarteifio, Greater Accra Regional Director of Health Services and Chairperson on behalf of members gave the assurance of their optimism in the discharge of their responsibilities to pay back the confidence reposed in them by the LOC.

Other members of the committee are Dr George Acquaye, Head of Regional National Ambulance Service, Mrs Cecilia Narhm, Deputy Director of Nursing Services, Mrs Lydia Lutterodt, Representative of the Physiotherapist Unit, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Mr Frimpong of the Ghana Red Cross Society and Mr Phillip Kobina Adade, representative of Saint John's Ambulance Service.

The three co-opted members are Dr Kwaku Fordjour, 37 Military Hospital, Dr Martin Engman of the Stadium Clinic and Dr Ahmed Zakaria.

The formation of the sub-committees will be replicated in the other venues of Sekondi, Kumasi and Tamale within the next few days.
