Ghanaian Bantamweight boxer Joseph Agbeko on Sunday morning won the International Boxing Federation’s Bantamweight title in Sacramento, USA, after out-pointing Nicaraguan Luis Alberto Perez.
Impressive Agbeko knocked down his opponent in the seventh round of their scheduled twelve round contest at the Arco Arena in California, to pick the country’s first world boxing title in eight years since former Welterweight Champion Ike Quartey lost his WBA crown in 1999.
Agbeko now joins the list of Ghana’s boxing world champions which includes D.K. Poison, Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, Alfred Kotey and Nana Yaw
Konadu. Ghana could end the year with one more title though. Welterweight Joshua Clottey is favourite to beat Kermit Citron for the IBF Welterweight title on December 1.
