Members of the Sekondi-Takoradi Venue Organising Committee (STVOC) of the Ghana 2008 on Saturday inspected progress of work on the four training pitches earmarked for the tournament.

The pitches include the Sekondi Sports Stadium Complex at Essipong, Railway Park and the Gyandu Park at Sekondi and the Fijai Secondary School Park.

The team led by its Chairman, Nana Kobina Nketia V visited the Animens, Takoradi, Melody and New Mexico Hotels as well as the Sekondi and Takoradi central markets.

They also inspected the progress of work on an Accident and Emergency Unit at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital at Sekondi.

Nana Nketia in an interview with the media after the inspection said it formed part of the working visit of the Committee within Sekondi-Takoradi to assess the preparedness of the Metropolis in hosting the Ghana 2008.

He said it is the responsibility of all to ensure that the Metropolis hosted a successful tournament.

Nana Nketia advised the people to change their attitude and be prepared to welcome over 20,000 visitors to the tournament, adding that there was the need for hoteliers and taxi drivers to make the visitors feel at home and have fond memories of the area.

He urged the people to keep the environment clean through regular clean-up exercises before and especially during the period of the tournament.

Nana Nketia urged the media to assist in educating the public against HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STI).
