Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals displayed a stunning performance to spank Accra Hearts of Oak 3-0 to lift the 2007 SWAG/Nyemetei Cup at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

An scrambled goal just in the opening second minute and Kofi Nti Boakye’s lone strike ensured the Dansoman-based completed a Cup double over their city rivals in two weeks.

The SWAG match was sponsored by State Insurance Corporation (SIC). The annual match played in honour of Henry Plange Nyemetei, one time Patron of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) saw the “Scientific Soccer Lads” winning the hearts of the fans right from the onset.

They called off the bluff of the Phobians’ quest for revenge by exhibiting high level of technical, tactical and disciplined play that made their hosts look an ordinary side in all departments of the game.

As early as the second minute, Yaw Antwi broke the deadlock, taking advantage of a communication gap between Hearts central defender Tachie Menson and goalkeeper Laud Quartey to slot the ball home from a rebound.

Liberty continued to dictate the pace over Hearts with enterprising midfielder Kojo Asamoah leading the assault on several occasions.

Their efforts yielded dividends in the 35th minute when Antwi connected home Asamoah’s cross for his personal second and two for Liberty.

Striker Kofi Nti Boakye increased the tally from a goal mouth action in the 46th minute to further worsen the plight of Hearts, who played as if there was nothing at stake.

Both sides effected some changes, but it was Liberty who continued to dictate the pace of the game, holding onto their result to lift their second silverware of the season.

Liberty a fortnight ago pipped Hearts 7-6 on penalties to lift the maiden NIIT Invitational Tournament at the Elk-Wak Stadium, even when the former had a player in post during the penalty shoot-out.
