The Sports for Peace and Development (SDP) secretariat has lauded the efforts of Mr. Osei Bonsu Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports for successfully organising the SDP International Working Group Bureau and Executive Committee meeting held in Accra earlier in the month.

Johann O. Kos, President and Chief Executive Officer of the secretariat said in a communiqué monitored by GNA Sports that “but for your tireless efforts, the success of the meeting would not have been possible.

“Your passion and dedication to the issue of Sports for Development and Peace is truly commendable.”

The Deputy Minister as the Chairman of the African Union of Sports Ministers chaired the conference that spanned December 3-4 in Accra.

The President described the Accra conference that brought together 43 countries, United Nations agencies and civil society actors as the most successful meeting in the event’s history.

The two-day meeting resulted in the Accra ‘Call for Action on Sports Development and Peace’ that was unanimously adopted by the over 100 delegates that provided key input to the policy aimed at helping governments integrate sports to their national and international development frameworks.

“I’m convinced that the ‘Accra Call to Action on Sports for Development and Peace’ will allow us to successfully move forward the use of sports to attain the Milllennium Development Goals and to showcase best practices of pioneer Government –implementers, such as achieved by government of Ghana.”

Mr Kos also commended Dr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, Director of Sports for his exceptional contribution to the success of the conference.
